BCS Playoff would ruin college football
This is not a very popular opinion. Everyone and their cousin is pushing for the BCS to apply some kind of playoff system to determine a national champion. A system that they feel will exhibit the most amount of fairness to most amount of teams in one of the countries premiere sports.
The athletic directors will never agree to it. And it'll never work. Here's why.
But, how do you pick teams for what would be, say, an eight team playoff. Right now, there are six BCS conferences, these conference bring in the brunt of college football interest, ratings, and more specifically money. How loud will the hubbub be when a small school gets in the top eight, kicking out a major player, and possibly a conference winner from the big six? Will there be more argument about who will be picked for the final 8th spot then there will be about who gets picked for the 2nd spot in the current BCS Championship game. Let's say, you pick six BCS conference winners and two wild cards, then the small school with a loud voice will scream foul, that there is something going on behind the scenes. Maybe these BCS winners are ranked low, and shouldn't be playing for the championship because they haven't deserved it.
You got your eight teams amid controversy, so let's move on. Where would these seven games be played for an eight team playoff? If your team goes all the way, in all likely-hood the fans will have to travel to three distinct playoff sites (if home field advantage is used). I was a college student not too long ago, and I can't say I would have had enough money to travel to three different sites within a week of each other just to watch my team.
Furthermore, a playoff system devalues the entire football season. As it stands now, once a team loses a game, they are almost inevitably kicked out of the championship chase, no matter how hard they try - on down years two losses. So, if the season is a single, and at most double elimination for the national championship hunt, who's to say it's not a form of a playoff to begin with. Every game is so important in a college season, that the high level of play brings in intensity, and of course dollar signs.
There's no hard-and-fast solution to find an indisputable champion of college football, unless the voters get lucky and teams fall into place by themselves. The solution should be fluid. There should be a playoff for teams vying for the last spot to get into the national championship game - if the year plays out that way. Because, there are years that there is controversy, and there's years when there's no controversy. So, put the extra game in for years that require it, but don't play it when there's a clear-cut one and two.
Just for the record, I'm still bitter about the loss.

So all the other sports competitions (which is just about every other one by the way) are devalued too? I don't see the NFL switching to a bowl system. All bowls except for the championship game are a waste of time. I personally think we need to pretend like bowls don't exist. .don't go to them, don't watch them, don't talk about them.
No not all sports are devalued you need to get your head out of your ass bowl games give schools money and they shouldn't be forgotten i think we need to combined the BCS and playoff with a 8 team playoff and have the teams that lost still play in the BCS games like the orange bowl, rose bowl, sugar bowl, and fiesta bowl. then we can stop blaming the BCS for our problems and and get on with our lives
