Two fewer undefeateds

Is this the college football season, that two undefeated teams went down to competition? Coming into today, there were a good half-dozen unbeaten teams, seemingly more than in previous years at this point in the season. Lucky for us, law of averages took over and brought teams back down Earth. We all know that only one team really has a chance to go an oh-fer in the loss column this year, and it wasn't any of the teams that lost today.

Vanderbilt, the least likely undefeated contender went down at woeful Kentucky, and will likely be the Wildcats' signature win this season. There hasn't been much to be proud of for the blue, but now they can hang their hat on handing the Commodores their first loss. If anything, it was a highly entertaining game that took two overtimes to secure an outcome for. Billy must be so proud that he now has an extra inch on his leash since he won at home.

On the other hand, I wasn't able to watch the Cougars get brought down to earth by UCLA, but hardly surprised. There was a stat thrown across the screen several times that WSU was something like 3-49 at Pauly Pavilion, and this UCLA team isn't a pushover. They play great defense, and one of the few Pac 10 teams that are extremely physical. There's little doubt that the Bruins will win the league when March comes around, but out of the few games that I have seen Washington State play, they should be right there all year.
