Boren crossing enemy lines

Justin Boren stabbed Michigan by leaving on not-so-pleasant terms. Citing "erosion of family values" and other masochistic pleasures brought in by Rich Rodriguez he burned all bridges. That is, of course besides those at Ohio State. Boren poured salt on the wound he initially created by transferring to the Buckeyes for the year after next.

I can see how people can have both views on this guy, and I understand them. But this is also somewhat unprecedented. Sure, Boren isn't on the level of Jake Long, but he is a fairly big name, and initially chose the Wolverines over Buckeyes when he was recruited out of high school. This is good for Ohio State because it adds depth to the offensive line, and that's never a bad thing. And even though he can't play next year, he will practice and add some spicy toughness and nastyness to the O-Line in general.

I don't know what this says about the rivalry itself though. Yeah, this is just one player, but the idea of a rivalry is to dislike the other team. This is the one thing that college has over pro football, because players follow money from one "rival" to the other in the pro leagues. I never thought I'd see the day when a player - a starter - would leave from one team to another. If anything, I guess this adds a certain edge to both sides.
